DLC20 Discussion (maybe, but why not?)

Let's face it, a lot of animals in the game don't move anything like their real-life counterpart.
The dik-dik, for example, walks like any other large antelope in PZ, while in real life (from what I've seen at least) it walks in quite a unique way
Sure, but then why make animal when resources arent there.

Anyway dik-dik case is even more stupid than that. Frontier did absolutely no research and someone making it must have thought small ungulates move in fast motion (cause small = fast) so antelope animations were speed up. Meanwhile small ungulates move cautiously in slow and long strides. It would be literally better, if Frontier didnt do anything, but slap model and call it a day. You probably heard about it as explaination why there are no small ungulate mods based on it.

Though I can understand why die-hard animal fans are bothered with that kind of details, may I remind that most of people absolutely don't know how some species move or even the noises they make. Most people don't know that a dik-dik doesn't walk exactly like a "regular" antelope or that the gharial moves differently from other crocodiles. I can totally understand why devs don't put much effort when most of players won't notice at all.

I mean isnt that all the more reason to accurately portray them? To educate people?

A lot of players are already been educated by being introduced to many animals they might never heard of before. I've learnt a lot about animals, their biomes, behaviours, social needs, colour variants, etc. While I prefer the game to be as much accurate as possible, I don't think it needs to be as precise as a National Geographic documentary or an specialized animal guide. Sometimes I feel we as a society in general tend to focus on one small bad detail and we forget all the good things.

I really hope that this kind of thing (above examples) is addressed in PZ2. A crucial part of the role of the animators should be that they love animals and know more than the average joe, are avid watchers of wildlife documentaries etc. Even if they can research, if they don't know what they don't know, they won't know how to learn it.

The way an animal looks is such a limited aspect of it. Its textures, gestures, movements, speed, strength, dietary habits, activity level, its need to hide or roam, its desire to mingle or nurture, its communication, all of its various behaviours, emotional experience, etc etc ...all of that needs to be understood to capture the animal.

If you had the luxury of ordering a special portrait of your favourite pet, would you choose the artist who has more experience and a bigger portfolio, or the artist who is less renowned, but loves animals of the same species as your pet? Actually take that even further...if you were getting a portrait of your family, would you pick an AI who had looked at some pictures of humans, or an artist who knew what it was like to be among humans?

I feel like this is the part that Frontier corp. doesn't get. No shade to their brilliant animators and their skills. I'm just doubtful how many of them really love animals and take an active interest.

Of course but I don't want to blame devs for their job when it's already very good. And as Aramar said, the game already allowed a lot of us to learn a lot of things on a lot of species, if not to discover some. Nature has always been an important part of my life but I've never learned as much as for the last 4 years thanks to Planet Zoo. If we want to focus on education, I would say that Frontier is doing a great job by focusing on topics like presevration and ecology.

I really hope we'll get some news the upcoming week.
But it could also happen that we have to wait even longer and they just wanted to tease us already to let us know there is coming another dlc.

No. I do not understand it. I really dislike this way of thinking.
It only encourages devs to do less, because why bother when people arent going to notice? Imagine your favorite animal being done dirty to the point it is sad looking at it (rhea), because someone at Frontier put less care due to reason stated above. Irellevant grey ostrich for people, who are not going to use it anyway and complete disapointment for rhea fans.

I want to think that maybe could be the teaser trailer this week (maybe monday o tuesday), and even more so because the next week after this one is the last week of June (and from there, comes the next Frontier Unlocked)

the closer we get the more im thinking it might not get revealed till the next unlocked stream which already looks like its going to be packed with PC2, JWE3, JWE2, PZ and everyone's favourite space game all having significant reasons to be showcased.

Err I don’t think they won’t be able to pack that much into a stream
They are likely going to devote a lot of time to JWE3 as it was just revealed and discuss a good amount on pc2 updates/future. Typically they will talk about console bundles and mention PZ pc in 1 or 2 sentences (with the exception of last months).
